Kate McGoey-Smith was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, friend and colleague. She left this world suddenly on October 20th 2022.
She was born in Kitchener, Ontario to Joan McGoey and Robert Schmalz in 1956. Kate had an eclectic career first as a registered nurse, also as a college professor and finally, as a social work therapist for 38 years.
Kate met her husband Andrew in Waterloo, Ontario and they were married in 1984. Together, they had three children: Chris, Thomas, and Megan.
Kate loved helping people from all walks of life – not only in professional settings but also in unexpected places. From hospital beds to holiday encounters, Kate believed in the power of helping strangers wherever she went.
Most weekends were spent with her family watching movies, documentaries and preparing meals. Romantic comedies were her favourite as it was another way to gain insight into her clients, friendships, and family.
A Celebration of Life for Kate will be held at the St. Lawrence Anglican Church on November 1st at 3:00 pm.
